General Manager – Alto Sanitary District, Mill Valley

The Alto Sanitary District is looking for a General Manager. This is a part time position requiring 40 to 50 hours per month.

The Alto Sanitary District consists of 3.1 miles of gravity sewer covering ¼ square miles in an unincorporated area on the Eastern border of the City of Mill Valley, California.

The district also has oversight of the garbage collection in the district. The district is one of six small districts that are members of the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM), which owns and operates the wastewater treatment plant in Mill Valley.

The General Manager of the Alto Sanitary District administers the operation of the district and reports to the Board of Directors. Duties include preparation of the monthly board packet, attendance at meetings, follow-up after the meetings and the daily running of the district.

The manager is the sole employee of the District. All professional services are contracted and the manager acts as liaison for these. These services include engineering, inspections, sewer maintenance, sewer repair, and payroll services. The manager also files reports with the county, state, and federal agencies as required.

Job Requirements:
• Must have a California driver’s license and a car.
• Must have an Office with a computer and internet connection.
• Must Install the District phone in the office
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and can communicate well, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of sewer collections systems and an understanding of how local government works is desirable but not required.
