Library Assistant at San Francisco Public Library

The City and County of San Francisco has announced an open recruitment period for the position of Library Assistant for the San Francisco Public Library.

The essential functions of this classification include: performing circulation and registration duties; checking and verifying records; receiving and recording payment of fines; providing information to the public; assisting library patrons in a tactful and effective manner; generating reports such as circulation reports, overdue notices, paging lists, clear hold shelf lists, daily cash reports and other related reports; utilizing Integrated Library Systems software to create and access customer accounts and performing tasks such as, library applications processing, verification of application information, fines and fees resolution, library card usage policies and procedures, check/in – check/out of physical and digital materials; assisting with daily library operations, such as opening and closing procedures, completing ADA checklists, drafting desk schedules, etc.; utilizing a computer to retrieve information and input data; shelving and retrieving books and other library materials using alphabetical, numerical, chronological and Dewey Decimal classification systems; performing physical processing of library materials including filing and processing new periodicals, newspaper clippings and other information; performing routine book repair and/or weeding on condition as directed; operating microfilm machines and scanners; troubleshooting and providing assistance to patrons with library equipment, including microfilm machines, scanners, and multifunction devices (copy machines); providing direction, training and/or coaching to Library Pages as directed; entering data; and performing related duties as assigned.
